Rich Miller, Senior Pastor
Rich Miller has been our pastor since July 2012. He came to us from Vancouver, WA where he worked in the business sector for the previous 7 years. Prior to his business career, Rich was a pastor in the Northwest Yearly Meeting, serving in Salem, OR (South Salem Friends Church, 1989-91); Tacoma, WA (Olympic View Friends, 1992-1997); and Vancouver, WA (Four Summits/New Day Community Churches, 1997-2005).
Rich graduated from George Fox College in 1986 with a bachelor of arts degree and from Azusa Pacific University Graduate School of Theology in 1989 with an MDiv degree. He is married to Nadine (30 years and counting!) and has three children: Bethany Miller-Headley (Daniel), Kenton (Bekah), and Gerik Miller, and one granddaughter, Elliotte Evelyn Headley and one grandson, Olin Scot Headley. Rich’s philosophy about life and ministry is to “love God and love people; that is the center of the mark” (to quote a 4Him song).

Daniel Licon, Youth Pastor
Daniel and his wife, Elizabeth, moved to Newberg five years ago. Previously, they lived in Chicago where Daniel completed his degree in Pastoral Ministry at Moody Bible Institute with an emphasis in preaching and writing. While in Chicago, Daniel served in a variety of ministries. Currently, he is involved at C.S. Lewis Academy where he coaches basketball and track & field. He is working toward earning his master’s degree through Regent College. Daniel feels alive when he is cruising on his Ninja listening to his jams and spending time with Elizabeth and their miniature dachshund, Mr. Badger.
Whether he is coaching on the track, teaching in chapel, or developing friendships with people, Daniel’s life mission is to meet people where they are and inspire them to become who Christ intends them to be. He sees all of the ways teachers, mentors, and coaches believed in him and invested into his life growing up, and he hopes to be able to do the same for the people God places in his life.

Priscilla Peterson, Office Administrator
Priscilla has lived in the Pacific Northwest all of her life. She joins the church staff after volunteering in the church office for a few years. Priscilla is in the office Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. She enjoys reading, helping people, learning new things on the computer, and spending time with family. She is the proud mom of five adult children and proud grandma of eight grandchildren. She tries to live a positive lifestyle with Philippians 4:8 as her guide:
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

Rob Whitaker, Director of Worship Arts
Rob returns to Sherwood Friends after having served as Worship Coordinator at Northside Community Church in Newberg for the past six years. His full-time vocation is teaching 2nd graders in the McMinnville School District, where he has taught for the last fourteen years. Prior to teaching, Rob was Youth Pastor at Sherwood Friends from 1992-1996. In 1997, Rob moved with his family back to his home state, Iowa. There he served as Associate Pastor at Fairfield Friends Church working with middle school and high school youth, and leading worship. It was during this time when Rob began feeling the call to teaching after working at the elementary school across from the church. Rob and his wife, Shannon, moved the family back to Oregon in 2000, and served as Worship Leader at Sherwood Friends from the fall of 2000 until the fall of 2008 while earning his Master of Arts in Teaching and starting his teaching career.
Rob graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from George Fox University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Bible from Barclay College (Haviland, KS). He and his wife, Shannon, have been married for 25 years. They have three children, Nick (married to MaryGrace), Ethan and Jaden. Rob feels that “worship is not about a particular style, or making people feel good. Worship is honoring God, glorifying Him and connecting with the Creator of the universe. My role as a worship leader is to facilitate this. Worship is not a performance. EVERYTHING should point to the Trinity- God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit."
