Go with God’s Plan
The Community of the Free (part 13) | Paul was a great teacher, but he seldom included stories or parables (whereas, that was Jesus’ favorite teaching method). Paul was a straight-shooter, and he usually just stated the unvarnished truth but this is one of the occasions where Paul employed an allegory. The story of Sarah and Hagar is one of the juiciest stories in the Bible; it has all the elements of a modern soap opera.
This story, however, wasn’t just literally about the story of Sarah and Hagar; Paul was talking about how it applied to the two ways of salvation: Works or Grace. He compared it to the two covenants: The covenant of the Law and the New Covenant of grace.
